My #2018MakeNine Plans + Youtube Vlog

Last year I meant to get involved with Make Nine but completely forgot to put them together. Probably for the best really as I hardly sewed a thing. As I’ve got more time this year, I decided to give the #2018MakeNine a go. I do love this idea and I think it originally stemmed from Rochelle over at the Lucky Lucille/Home Row Fibre Co, whose blog I’ve been following for quite a while now. If you haven’t read it already, her blog post outlines the challenge really well and has some great questions to help you decide what you would like to make. I like the idea of the challenge as it holds me accountable and gives me a rough plan for the year. I also like that it’s not set in stone either. My plans may change or I may even make more, but for now it gives me a plan to follow.

This year I asked myself “What does my wardrobe need?” And in all honesty, my wardrobe doesn’t need anything. I know that I have a lot of clothes already, both handmade and RTW. However, now that my lifestyle has changed and I’m feeding Rosie, I have identified a gap. Clothes that are suitable for nursing. Specific RTW nursing clothes are hard to come by and the ones I’ve found are not particularly on trend or fashionable. The nice ones that I have found have been expensive and have me thinking that I could make it for a lot cheaper. Instead of looking for a nursing range, I’ve started to look at clothing styles that are also suitable for feeding. Basically anything that opens at the front is great. With that in mind, I’ve chosen these items to make for my wardrobe.  I’ve also pictured them with the fabric I am planning to use.

5) Gertie’s Sew Vintage Casual – zip front dress

As outlined in my baby sewing plans, I’ve also included some makes for Rosie:

6) Simplicity 8304 – dress + leggings (if I feel brave enough!)

7) See Kate Sew’s Mermaid gown

I couldn’t forget about the dogs so I’ve included a coat pattern for them too.

9) Butterick B4885

I’m pleased to report that as this blog is published, I have already made a start on my sewing plans and I’m trying hard to keep projects ongoing so that I can get them sewn up whenever I get a minute.

I also made my first Youtube video of the year, outlining my #2018makenine plans and showing off some of the fabric!  Please watch it if you’ve got 10 mins to spare.  I’m still experimenting with filming.  I think I used the wrong setting on my camera so it appears that the lighting is a bit strange!

  1. Wow, that IS a plan! It’s a good thing that fashionable nursing clothes are a thing nowadays. 27 years ago, I remember feeding my daughter in public and just having to lift my T-shirt. Didn’t bother me, but attitudes were a bit different back then and I often got disapproving looks.
