Anyone who knows me personally, knows that I am one for lists. Lists for housework, shopping, jobs, blogs…in fact anything that needs doing goes on a list! I was browsing the available books on Blogging For Books and saw a book about lists. I was intrigued and looking forward to it arriving.
Go Ahead & Like It by Jacqueline Suskin is a book to inspire thoughts and contemplation, with one thing in mind; things you like. In addition to Jacqueline talking us through her process of making lists and how it makes her feel, the book is full of lists of what she has liked at certain times of her life. She encourages us to think about the small things that are worth appreciating and the big things that we take for granted. Negative events or bad situations can be turned around by drawing out the positives and thinking about what we can actually like.
The book made me smile. It made me think deeply. It made me want to make lists. So I did a couple myself.
I love the lists that are written over a photograph. This would make an awesome scrapbook feature so I’m storing that one for future use.
The only thing that could be improved is the amount of space in the book for the reader to write their own lists. At the back of the book there is a page that allows you to begin listing your likes. I just think that this would have been much better if it had blank pages throughout the book too, with prompts for list making.
I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.
Fun! I like things like this that get you to think in a new way. I definitely agree that you should have room to write as you go, though, while you’re feeling inspired by what’s in the book.
Oh I’m a list maker too although mainly to do and packing lists. I love the satisfaction when crossing something off! A book about lists though… Wow.
I think that it is the satisfaction of crossing things off that I like too 🙂 I’ve only ever done ‘to do’ lists before but I really enjoyed doing these ones…quite therapeutic!
Aw, I like Maisy’s list…! I only write a list if I’ve a lot to do in the day otherwise I just make my day up as I go along and put stuff off. Probably should write more. The last one I did was on my Sunday sevens and I surprised myself how productive I was that day. 😀
I only write ‘to do’ lists really but this was quite a nice little activity for me to do! I really like the photo idea so I may do a few lists to frame around the apartment 🙂
As a Type A – I totally get the need for a good book to write my lists 🙂
I’m a lifelong list maker, but it’s usually stuff I need to do. I love the idea of just making a list of things I like! Thanks for sharing at Talented Tuesday Natalie!
