If anyone has ever offered me a cup of green tea, I have always politely declined. I had a bad experience with some green tea ice cream once; it was gross! But lately I have been expanded my tea trying palette and was intrigued when I was asked to try out some Matcha Green Tea Powder from Kiss Me Organics. With the powder, I received a link for a pdf recipe book with loads of stuff in – hot drinks, cold drinks, baking, pizza dough, sauces…loads! I never really realised how much you could actually make with green tea powder!
A few weeks ago, I shared 5 recipes that I had tried, tested & enjoyed. I’m back again to share another 5 with you!
We are still trying to cook meals from scratch and only buy the ingredients we need for the meals we have planned to have that week. I know that some people love meal planning and some people don’t. I like it because we hardly ever have food go to waste or out of date. I also like that we often make a larger portion of a dish and then freeze the rest for another night, which is great if we have a few errands to run when Adam gets home from work and then we can’t be bothered to spend an hour preparing food! How do you plan for your meals? Do you batch freeze? How do you do your food shopping if you haven’t got meals planned? I am eager to hear what other people do, as I am open for new techniques/ options. Meal planning seems to work for us at the moment but I find it really hard to keep our meals varied!
Anyway… here are a few recipes that we have tried recently and what we think about them!
Fresh food is something that really appeals to me. Knowing that I have made something from scratch makes meals taste even better. Sometimes, I opt for the easy option; jarred sauces, cans and pre-cooked meals…but I am trying to make the most of using the ingredients we already have in our cupboards. This way I know exactly what has gone into my dish.
The following recipe is for easy homemade meatballs and pasta sauce. This isn’t out of a book or from a website. I just put a few ingredients together that we already had and it tasted lovely!
When we arrived in the USA (10 weeks ago!), I was getting frustrated with shopping for food, especially baking items. I had been confused in the baking aisle many times as I just couldn’t find what I wanted and then gave up 🙁 I made some buns using a ready mix but they didn’t taste like my baking so I didn’t like them!
I came home and took to the internet to find the US equivalents to icing sugar, caster sugar and the flours that are used in baking. I felt much better once I had made a list and was ready to tackle the baking aisle again. Success…woohoo! I came home with ALL of the ingredients that I wanted.
The first thing I wanted to bake were these Peppermint frosted fudge brownies. The recipe appeared to be straight forward and it was! The brownie mixture came together perfectly and it was lovely to smell a homemade mixture. Yes, there is a difference between homemade and shop bought mixture smells!
I wanted to share 5 recipes with you that we have tried over the last couple of weeks. After starting a ‘meal ideas’ board on Pinterest I thought that I had better start working through some of them.
We quite like trying new things but both Adam and I can be a little fussy. He doesn’t really like any vegetables apart from carrots and peas. I can’t eat prawns or a lot of peppers because it upsets my tummy! Recently we have just been recycling the same recipes over and over because we like them. But, we had decided that we wanted a bit more variety.
These are the ones that we have tried, loved and will be eating again! They all made enough portions for 2-3 meals so we still have some left to eat in our freezer.
I would love to know if you have tried these already or are going to try them.
We are in Mobile, AL for Adam’s work. We are becoming more aware that we are not holiday so we are trying to eat more home cooked meals rather than going out. When we are on holiday, we eat out every night. As nice as it can be, it also costs more. We have decided to eat out once (maybe twice) each week. We still want to experience what food the USA has to offer us. If we have friends and family over, we want to be able to take them to places we have tried and approved!
We decided to head out for some food last night. Quite often we find ourselves driving or walking until we find somewhere that has something we fancy on the menu. This can be great when you find a good place to eat, but not so good if the food isn’t that great and the online reviews we read afterwards are rubbish!
Last night we went to Kitchen on George. This restaurant is #1 on the Tripadvisor restaurant list for Mobile. We know that not everyone likes using the reviews. I don’t always review everywhere we go so I presume that is the same for others too. I generally write a review if the food is either outstanding or rubbish……I hardly ever review the ‘in the middle’ good food restaurants. Anyway, with over 500 restaurants in the city, we have made the decision to work our way down the list.
