The Price of Beauty

Over the years, I’ve had periods of buying different kinds of beauty products; budget, expensive, organic & handmade. Each time I try these different products, I either like them or I don’t. I suppose I go through phases of using them and find I want to switch for no clear reason. I’m not sure why I do this, I just do!

Just as we left the UK, I had fallen into the habit of buying the same products and even brought a couple of month’s supply of make-up over to the States with me. I like using products that I know I like. I sometimes get a bit nervous of change, especially when it comes to make-up. Am I going to be too pale? Do I look like an Oompa-Loompa? Will it dry out my skin? anyway, a lot of questions are asked!

So… I ran out of my UK supplies and needed to buy some more make-up. We are also in the process of trying new beauty/skincare products that we have never had access too. As much as I would love to spend $10 on a designer hand soap and body wash, we are trying to spend as little as possible at the moment. The following products are my favourites of the ones I have tried so far and I wanted to share them with you! Some are available in the UK too 🙂

Ooooh an estate sale!

It was last Sunday.  It was miserable outside and we were fed up of being inside.  We set off out to find some antique stores to look around. I had seen a place online called Olde Mobile Antiques Gallery and it turned out that it was just around the corner from us!  We got there and it was shut.  I was sad but I should have known as it was a Sunday 😦  When we returned home, I found Olde Mobile on Facebook and got terribly excited when I found out they were holding their monthly estate sale on Friday!  I have never been to an estate sale, and we had just picked up the truck which meant I could go on the opening day.  This made me very happy and I even got out of bed before 8am!

I headed down to the sale around 10:30am.  By this time, it had already been open for a couple of hours and the car park was packed!  As I walked through the car park, there were many people coming out with bags and boxes full of goodies.  I really didn’t know where to start when I got in.  I certainly didn’t think it was going to be as big as it was and it was a little overwhelming for a first time estate sale attendee like myself.

Malls…of the Antique Kind

The last few trips to the US have involved us researching and finding some of the best Antiques Malls within the areas we have stayed.  The last time we went to Las Vegas, we came home with milk jugs, christmas decorations and football pennants.  The things we buy are never ‘worth’ a lot of money but are the quirky little things that we like to have in our home.  It also amazes me that some of the drinks themed objects we have bought for a few dollars, can be found at 5 times the price in the UK!  Hence the reason we always have to buy an extra suitcase for our return journeys.

We went for a drive around Mobile to see what we could find and we came across a small antique store.  The large iron door gave the impression that it was closed but we tried anyway and in we went.  Many people might have walked in and straight back out again.   Continue reading “Malls…of the Antique Kind”
