I recently joined the Blogging for Books site… you should totally check it out! Free books in exchange for a review! I didn’t go for a fiction book to start with as some of the non-fiction books appealed to me more. There were a couple of craft books but this cook book really stood out to me. All of my cook books are still back in the UK so I jumped at the opportunity to have one that I could flick through and make notes in!
The Paleo Chef (link to Amazon) is full of recipes to support the Paleo lifestyle.
“More and more people are discovering the health benefits of the Paleo lifestyle by cutting out processed, sugary foods and instead eating quality proteins and fats, fresh vegetables and fruits, and nuts and seeds. However, following this way of eating doesn’t mean sacrificing flavour or spending a long time in the kitchen.”
To be honest, I had never heard of the Paleo lifestyle before reading about it in this book. To me it just sounds like ‘perfect’ cooking. One of my aims for this year is to cook more and make more meals from scratch so I thought that the idea behind Paleo living wasn’t too far off my aim.
I went through the book and selected around 15 recipes that we would both like. I actually like the majority of them but Adam seems to be quite fussy selective with what he eats these days. I wrote down the ingredients for these, along with what I needed for the rest of my meal ideas. Despite my original US grocery store hatred, I now know where to look for things so I managed to get most ingredients from Walmart. I did get my meat, fruit & veg from the fresh market though. I just find that the quality is so much better! However, I couldn’t locate white miso paste but would probably get this from an oriental food market. I also didn’t buy the almond meal required for a few recipes as it was $12 for a small bag! :-0
Up to now I have tried the Japanese Crispy chicken recipe, along with the recipe for Mum’s Burgers. Both recipes were easy to follow, easy to cook and easy to eat! Very flavoursome and I was very tempted to eat Adam’s portion too before he got home from work!
Overview:
+ Lots of variety
+ Easy to follow
+ Good introduction to lifestyle choices
– Ingredients could be hard to locate
– Not enough carbs for me :-0
