Review: The Time Garden by Daria Song

Aaaaaaahhh adult colouring books.  All of a sudden it’s cool to be colouring in these books.  As a teacher and crafty person, I’ve always loved crayons, colouring and drawing.  I’m actually quite pleased that more people are embracing their creativity.  I was intrigued to try one out so I requested The Time Garden by Daria Song from Blogging For Books to review.

I expected this to be a themed colouring book…and it is but it’s also so much more!  The book begins with a picture of a cuckoo clock besides another page with a user’s manual for the clock.  The reader is thanked for purchasing the cuckoo clock and 6 quirky instructions are given for its use.  For me, this made me excited already and I was only on page 1!

From here you are actually given a story alongside the colouring pages, which I never expected at all.  The story is somewhat magical and takes you on a journey; with the colouring pages revealing more with their intricate details and mirrored narrative.

From the blurb:

“The Time Garden will sweep you away into a whimsical cuckoo clock-inspired world, created in intricate pen and ink by Korean artist Daria Song.  Journey through the doors of the clock into its inky inner workings to discover a magical land of clock gears, rooftops, starry skies and giant flying owls – all ready for you to customise with whatever colours you can dream up.

Cuckoo…cuckoo…cuckoo.

When the clock strikes midnight, you’ll wonder, was it all a dream?”

This came in the post this morning and I’m already planning on spending a couple of hours on it this evening…I may even post a page or 2 in my Sunday Sevens post. 🙂

I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.

  1. My husband just purchased 3 coloring books for me. I love them. But, this is fantastic. I can’t wait to see your pages come to life. I found some ‘woodless’ coloring pencils that I am loving. Are you coloring in pencil or good old fashioned crayon?

Let me know what you think...
