Sew Selfless September Update

At the beginning of September I came across a post by Jess at the Sometimes Sewist and joined her in pledging to Sew Selflessly in September.  I actually made a pledge to make at least 3 items for other people.  Well, I have exceeded my pledged amount and have already heard that the recipients of my gifts love them!

You may have already seen the posts for the Quilted Farm Book and the Owl Tag Toys.  If not, feel free to click the links and have a read.

I have also made a few other items for people back in the UK, but can’t post the full blog post until they have received them.  Here is a little sneaky peek!

With 5 days of September left, I am not sure if I will get the chance to make anything else for others but I am very pleased with what I have made up to now 🙂  Thanks Jess!

Downtown Relaxing & Orange Beach

Ooops, my normal Monday ‘weekend catch up’ post didn’t happen yesterday!

I had been quite excited last week due to finding a craft fair in Mobile on Saturday.  I even got dressed before I had my breakfast, which is very unusual for me!  Anyway, the fair was easy to find and as soon as we stepped out of the car, we could smell the hot dogs cooking…it wasn’t dinner time yet but they were very tempting 😦  It was a nice little craft fair with many tents holding a variety of handmade luxuries.  Honey, jewellery, carved signs and much more.  We didn’t buy anything but admired a lot.  It is hard to buy anything ‘homey’ as we have always got “How would we get it back to the UK?” running through our minds.

Soft and Scrumptious

A quick post to show the other items that I made a couple of weeks ago for two expected babies.  Hopefully, they will have made their way to England by now!

These are ‘taggies’ or ‘tag toys’ and they are very soft and scrumptious!  I have never sewn with this soft flannel fabric before and it was a little trickier than I originally expected.  A little stretchy and slippy!   I chose owls; 2 different patterns and lots of ribbons.  I think these are nice as a little handmade gift and will certainly keep them in mind for further gifts.  Enjoy 🙂

A Quilted Delight

I quite often see things on Pinterest, which I love and would love to make, but they would not have a purpose.  Sometimes I pin them anyway, hoping that an event or occasion will come up and I can get my craft on!

A few weeks ago I saw this tutorial for a quilted baby book.  I thought the idea was adorable!  It combined a range of skills; quilting, embroidery, appliqué.  Many of which I haven’t completed recently or for a number of years.  I can confidently say that I can do all three.  However, I haven’t done them for a while so this skill set is a bit rusty!

I have a friend back in England, who at the time of this creation, was pregnant but didn’t know if she was having a boy or a girl.  I thought that this would be a lovely gift as it is very neutral!  I was organised when I went shopping for the fabric.  I made a comprehensive list and tried not to overbuy on fabric.  Even though I did this, I still have loads of spare material left over!
