Colette Wren Dress

Another one ticked off the #2018MakeNine list!

I had a really hard time deciding on which version of this Colette Wren dress to make.  I love anything without sleeves so version 1 appealed to me the most.  However, after reading a few reviews, I realized that the skirt might not be so flattering on my tummy.  The gathered skirt on version 2 looks lovely and flattering though so I decided to combine the two and use the bodice of version 1 with the skirt of version 2.

Two Little Simplicity 2461 Dresses

2461

Camilla, over at Making & Marking, had sent me a few children’s patterns to have a go at sewing up for Rosie.  One of them was the Simplicity 2461 dress.  The pattern comes with quite a few cute dress styles and there are layering options too.  I chose to make View B and actually managed to choose some fabric from my stash that was quite similar to the main dress on the front of the pattern.  I’m hoping that I can get some nice white seersucker to make the layered piece at some point too.

2019 Make Nine Plans

Untitled

I’m joining in with Rochelle’s #MakeNine challenge again for 2019. I really enjoyed having goals to meet last year and managed to make seven out of the nine. Having a plan to work along to really works for my organized little brain. As you can see above, I’ve chosen a mix of patterns for both Rosie & I. Last year I chose a few patterns that were PDF patterns and this year, I’ve chosen patterns from my physical stash instead.  I’m really looking forward to following everyone else’s Make Nine challenges too.  Let me know if you are doing the challenge and drop your link in the comments!

Catching Up! Sew Over It Eve Dress

Untitled

Another catch up blog post for a garment I made a few months ago!  I’m having to make do with garment photos as they are as I haven’t had the time to take any photos with me wearing the garments!  Ooops!

One of the dresses in my #2018MakeNine plans was the Sew Over It Eve dress.  I chose this dress to make as it looks quite flattering and has a wrap bodice that would possibly work easily with nursing Rosie.  For the bodice/ sleeves I used the pattern for version 1 and used the straight skirt pattern from version 2. I had a nice light cotton in my stash, which I believe was from Joanns…probably from the clearance section too.  It’s a great breathable fabric for the hot weather we have over here.

Quick Quilts For Babies

We seem to have a few friends who have just had babies or are about to have them. I always think that handmade gifts are a lovely keepsake and I like to give them whenever I can.  I’ve made a couple of simple blankets in the past and have liked the way that the basic patchwork ones turn out.

We have a new quilting & yarn shop in the next city over from ours…when I say city, it makes it seem like a good old distance to drive but Fairhope is only 10 minutes from where we live.  It has a beautiful downtown area with lots of little independent stores that we like to support.  In The Making opened a few months ago and I believe they have a store open in Birmingham, Alabama also.

Sew Over It Blossom Dress

The Sew Over It Blossom pattern was gifted to me recently by Camilla and I knew that I wanted to include it in my #2018MakeNine plans.

The first step in production was to get the pattern and instructions printed off as this is a PDF pattern.  I always prefer to have a paper copy of instructions to flick through as I’m sewing.  When printing the actual pattern though, I came across my first problem.  I had downloaded the file for US size letter paper.  Paper in the US isn’t A4 like in the UK…crazy!  Anyway, I could not get the test square to print the size it needed to be.  It was either at least 0.5 cm over or 1cm under, and I tried at least 8 different printing options.  I ended up just going for the setting that was the closest measurement but it was a little bigger than it needed to be.
