Tutorial: Plastic Bag Holder…or…Bottle Gift Bag!

For a while now we have been making our plastic bags into little balls and putting them in the cupboard under the kitchen sink.  Well, I didn’t actually realise how out of hand the collection was getting until they started spilling out of the cupboard…I’m sure we had over 100 bags under there!  This spurred me on to make a bag to hold a few plastic bags AND to get rid of the others!

I had an idea of what I wanted to make in my mind but I couldn’t find any tutorials online to match so I decided to draft what I needed myself.  The bag I had in mind was close to the ones from Jeni’s tutorial over on In Color Order.  Only, I wanted an accent piece on the base as well as around the top.  As I wanted a long narrow bag, I also needed to change the measurements.

Moving Moving Moving …

We have been in our new apartment for three weeks now.  For just over half of that time we were sleeping on an air bed and sitting on beach chairs.  A little over a week ago our container arrived from the UK.  I am now sitting on MY sofa, drinking out of MY mugs and reading MY books. 😀

We left Sheffield last August to come to Mobile for what we thought would be a year.  We had packed our 2 suitcases full of what we thought we need (mainly clothes!) as we knew that we were heading to a fully furnished apartment.  The apartment we were placed in was lovely!  It was in a newly built complex and quite modern.  The square footage was actually almost as big as our house in the UK! We were (& still are) very grateful to have a furnished apartment but it didn’t feel right as none of it was ours and it was decorated how we would have done it.

Oh Little Alcove…What Shall You Be?

This space is in our new apartment.  As soon as I saw it, I thought it would be perfect for a sewing/ craft space!  My sewing machine could be out, I could put some shelves up and organise everything nicely.  However, I then realised that the space is directly opposite the kitchen and is included in the hallway space.  I don’t mind being in the way of walking down the hallway as it’s only Adam who would be walking past but I’m worried about kitchen smells.  Do I really want to be sewing a lovely dress and then cooking chicken fajitas mid make?

Sunday Sevens #32

It’s been a much better week this week! We are settled in our new apartment and I have started organising a few things. I haven’t set up a sewing area yet but managed to get a little fix in 🙂

1. It rained, and rained, and rained…all week! I had a couple of hours stressing as I was worried that this puddle was going to come onto the porch!
