Sunday Sevens Catchup #77 #78

It’s Sunday Sevens again!…Only this week I’m combining a few pictures from the last couple of weeks as I completely forgot to write the post last Sunday, and by the time I remembered it was Thursday already! I hope everyone else has had a good couple of weeks, and a great Mothers’ Day back in the UK! I feel like we have been non-stop at the moment so here’s a catch up from my last two weeks. 🙂

1. We were on Tornado watch for an afternoon as a bad storm passed through. Luckily we didn’t really see any of it but the city was preparing for the worst, which I’ve never seen happen before. Schools and shops closed early, and the list of evacuation centres was provided. It got a little eery and windy, and we had a lot of rain! A few local cities were affected though 😦 The damage in Pensacola was quite bad!

Tutorial: Plastic Bag Holder…or…Bottle Gift Bag!

For a while now we have been making our plastic bags into little balls and putting them in the cupboard under the kitchen sink.  Well, I didn’t actually realise how out of hand the collection was getting until they started spilling out of the cupboard…I’m sure we had over 100 bags under there!  This spurred me on to make a bag to hold a few plastic bags AND to get rid of the others!

I had an idea of what I wanted to make in my mind but I couldn’t find any tutorials online to match so I decided to draft what I needed myself.  The bag I had in mind was close to the ones from Jeni’s tutorial over on In Color Order.  Only, I wanted an accent piece on the base as well as around the top.  As I wanted a long narrow bag, I also needed to change the measurements.

I DID IT! My first (recent) 5K :-) & tutus!

Some of you may have seen an in-progress tutu making photo floating around my Instagram, and I also put it on my Sunday Sevens post.  I made the tutus as an accessory to wear to my first 5k!  🙂  I say ‘first’ loosely because I actually did 2 5k’s back when I was 16 & 17, but that’s 10 years ago, so this one was my first recent 5k!

My Vintage UFO from 2015

Back at the start of November 2015 I started this dress.  It was supposed to be my final make for the 2015 vintage pledge but I couldn’t quite get it finished in time!

It took me a while to get everything done with it.  It was one of those projects where I would make a small amount of progress and then set it to one side.   In December I made a good amount of progress but then it got put to one side again. So finally, at the very start of January 2016 I actually managed to get the dress finished!

The dress I decided to make was a combination of view 2 and 3; a sleeveless above the knee dress. The front had a curved seam beneath the bust, which had a bust dart at either end. The large front panel was made up from 2 separate panels joined in the centre.  All front seams were topstitched.

The pattern pieces included in this envelope were not matching and they had been not cut very well at all.  So when I came to attach the shoulder seams together, one was considerably larger than the other so I did need to trim the larger one to match the smaller.  I then found that the facing pieces included in the envelope belonged to a different dress completely!  Facings were abandoned and I chose a grey binding from my stash to finish the edges of the neck and arms. I think I just need to add a hook & eye closure to ensure the top of the zip is a little closer together.

My favourite part of this dress is the belt which adds detail to the back.  I love how the white buttons really make the belt stand out. 🙂

Would I make it again?  Probably not.  I don’t really think that this is a flattering style on me, especially as it’s a tad too tight around the tummy area!  I may change my mind when I lose a little weight, otherwise this will be an ‘around the house’ dress. 🙂
